Hii! Welcome to my blog, today I am going to talk to you about the study programm I am doing at university, specifically is the career of Architecture, in the faculty of architecturee and urbanism from university of Chile (FAU).
I am currently in my second year, so I have been able to observe several things during this time. Starting with the curriculum, so far there has not been a subject that I think unnecessary or something like that, but I do think that the subjects of the first semester were quite conceptual and I was left with the feeling of not having learned anything hahaha but then in the second I was hooked more.
I also wanted to add that recently I saw an intervention that was made in the FAU about this, they express that the current curriculum does not allow us to develop comprehensively as architects, since within the 5 semesters (before giving way to some specialization) is not achieved study in depth all areas, generating deficiencies in terms of our knowledge, so it gives to think critically this point.
As for the workload, I must say that it is generally heavy, since having a branch as a workshop takes a lot of time, both within the university and working at home, this goes hand in hand with the schedule, as it is exhausting to leave 2 to three 3 times a week at 7 pm approx.
On the other hand, regarding the infrastructure, the truth is that it leaves something to be desired, one comes with great expectations of what a university looks like , even more so with the reputation it has, that it is disappointing that it does not have a larger cafeteria, that there are not enough adequate spaces to work, or that in winter the rooms are flooded, I am really a little hard on this point, since it even seems a little ironic that the faculty of architecture has this kind of problems. But I must also recognize that recently projects have been presented and inaugurated, such as the new study room and elevator, there is also a project to remodel the cafeteria, so progress is being made little by little.

Finally, about the use of technology and teaching methods I don't have much to say, about the first I want to mention that our faculty does not have licenses for all the programs we use and these are so expensive that most students resort to piracy to be able to use them. On the other hand I have seen in a good way the teaching methods that are applied, it will depend on the field but so far I have seen variety in the way of teaching or evaluating some content, that is something I appreciate and that is different from the way of teaching in the more formal school.
Well this has been all for today's blog, this time it was quite longer 😅 hahaha but I hope you enjoyed reading it, see you in the next one!
Hi Jade I really share your opinion, the infrastructure of the university is not the best and it is ironic. As for the academic load it is very heavy and overwhelming at times, many people have told us that we have to leave because it is too late.
ResponderEliminarHi Jade! I felt the same the first semester, kinda boring and not what I expected, but we have to be patient😄. Regarding the infrastructure, the fact that things are improving little by little, let me with some hope about the new projects.
ResponderEliminarHi! It's true that many people are forced to download software platforms in a pirated manner, although I know that all Autodesk products can be obtained with an institutional email address 👀
ResponderEliminarHello Jade! as a new architect student is great to see the pov of someone whos been here longer than i am:) at least they are doing more projects to improve the infrastructure!
ResponderEliminarHi Jade!! I agree with you about what you said about infrastructure, it is quite ironic that being in architecture, there are so many infrastructure problems, but it's good that they are doing things to improve in that area.
